still totally overwhelmed by how amazing this trip is so far. braved the cold and massive crowds to try and watch the swearing in ceremony in front of the capital building. even with tickets that were supposed to get us relatively close we were unable to get to the designated gate in time so we ended up watching on big screens behind the washington monument. pete was the only one of us quick enough to think about climbing a tree to get a better view:

new year's in vegas: the final score

so here was the rundown from yesterday's trip to vegas, in order:
* won $200 playing blackjack
* checked out a $40,000 alligator bag at louis vuitton (did not purchase)
* ate a delicious dinner at the palm steakhouse
* party at pure nightclub
* 3am catfight in the lobby of the hotel (did not participate, only watched)
* lost $200 playing blackjack
* slept 4 hours, returned to LA

all in all a fun trip and there's no better way to ring in the new year's than by celebrating with your friends. happy 2009 to everyone!

just saw million dollar baby for the first time ever. yeah i know, 4 years late on that one. it was possibly one of the most depressing movies of all time, but also really amazing.

been doing a lot of driving lately and decided that i might try to take an epic road trip around the country at some point. this road trip also needs to involve as many major league ballparks as possible.

growing up as a baseball obsessed kid i collected my fair share of baseball cards. one of the holy grail cards was the infamous billy ripken "fuck face" card which, as legend had it, was the result of a practical joke by one or several of his teammates.

well it looks like the mystery has finally been solved thanks to this sweet article from cnbc.com. turns out he wrote "fuck face" on the bottom of the bat himself and didn't realize he was using the bat he used for the fleer photo shoot. to make matters even more hilarious he claims that fleer "enhanced" the words on the bottom of the bat so they could be read more clearly. one less cold case for the world to solve...

so a guy posts a craigslist ad telling people to show up dressed as a road construction worker outside of a bank of america branch at a specific time. then robs the bank (wearing the same outfit of course) and makes his getaway down a creek (or crick if you're from downstate illinois) in an inner tube. when the cops show up there's just a bunch of dudes hangin out by the bank that fully match the description. pretty genius if you ask me.

so i'm surfing good ole cnn.com today to see what's going on in the world and came across this benign little story about mattel suing some other toy company over copyright infringement. something about barbie and bratz, yada yada...(click pictures on enlarge)

then you click to the page and cnn can't seem to make up their mind about whether mattel got $40 mil or $100 mil in the settlement. despite being asian i'm not the world's greatest math whiz but i do know that there's a huge fucking difference between $40 mil and $100 mil. $60 mil to be exact. is it too much to hire a retarded monkey intern to copy edit this garbage (no offense to retarded monkeys).

here's the kicker though, the image that accompanies the story is neither a picture of barbie nor a bratz toy but a fucking robot bug. this is about when my brain began to explode in utter disbelief.
cnn.com staffer: well boss, it's not barbie or a bratz but it IS a kind of toy. close enough right?
cnn.com editor: i don't know man, i'm too busy trolling tmz for some front page news stories. let's run with it!

seriously man, this is where a large contingent of our country's population gets its news from. can we at least get someone over there to give half a flying fuck???!!!

UPDATE: the actual amount of the settlement was $20 million. not 40 or 100. cnn.com would be better off if it was being run by barbie, bratz, or even that stupid robot bug toy that looks like a crab.

apologies for the recent lack of blogging activity. i've been spending the better part of the last month wandering around LA and san diego, dj'ing parties (some funny, some really hilarious), and following the olympics. now that they're over everyone can get on with their lives...except for the tae kwon do ref up top who got kicked in the head after a bad call. oops!

everyone who knows me knows how much i love sneakers and everyone who knows i love sneakers knows how much i love nike so i was stoked when they asked me to DJ the human race event in chicago which ends at soldier field.

the nike+ human race is basically the world's largest organized race, a 10K run taking place in 25 cities worldwide on 8.31.08. to make things even bigger they're getting some crazy musicians to perform at each concert site including kanye, all american rejects, and my dudes in fall out boy. nike is anticipating over a million people either running in one of the organized races or at home through nike+ which could make this the single largest sporting event in history. amazing!

in other news, i'm having a blast so far in LA. hung out all day on set at FNMTV and met some really great people. i'm going to be DJ'ing in their new backstage green room starting next week and i'm really excited about that. if you're ever able to sneak backstage you'll find me spinning my favorite jams and trying to get people to drink all the free booze. good times!

i had the unique fortune of driving around LA in joe t's smart car. in case you don't know, the smart car is europe's latest export. basically it's a golf cart with a roof and a tiny little engine that gets the thing going up around 60 MPH if you are brave enough to push it that far. me, i mostly got lost in beverly hills and drove around in circles listening to david banner. i got lots of funny looks from a-holes driving hummers so at least there's that...

also in the works is an august DJ residency in the san diego area. more to come on that later for all you people a few hours south of here...

to commemorate the beautiful wedding of my friends i had some buddies at nike help cook up these dunk hi's limited to 2 in the world (one for him, one for her).

royal purple, black, and white with contrast stitching with gum soles. the shoes alone are fresh but add lasering on the outside heel (pw in infinity on high font, as on ashlee's font, and the date of wedding) and these make for a very sentimental pair of dunks. (big big thanks to ashley "the tom" for doing the font layout for the laser). there's a cool inscription embroidered on the inside of each tongue but we'll keep those private.

so it looks like the city of chicago is at it again, this time trying to pass legislation THIS WEDNESDAY MAY 14 that would effectively shut down DIY shows in small clubs across the city.

my weekend in our nation's capitol

through a random set of circumstances your very own korean tom cruise was invited to lay down dj skills at a post-white-house-correspondent's-dinner party at the newly opened smithsonian newseum (nee smithsonian news museum as some of my DC friends pointed out). they gave dude a train ticket and a much-too-large-but-i'm-not-complaining corner suite at the intercontinental willard hotel. life is good sometimes.

i don't know a whole lot about the DC social scene but apparently the white house correspondent's dinner is a huge deal and takes place, logically enough, at the white house. people wear tuxes and eat a fancy meal and the president gets up and reminds the crowd that hey, crusty old white politicians can be funny too sometimes.

then everyone leaves with their wine-from-dinner buzz in full effect for the after parties, which is where the fun really happens. i was invited, along with a certain mr. pete wentz to dj the event. easier said then done when the crowd looks like this:

these people are NOT getting down to the new TI track so i had to keep it very white and 80's. big highlights included new kids on the block, madonna, and inxs. also, white people, like the guy below, love the song "she drives me crazy" by fine young cannibals.

i've been known to knock back a few adult beverages to get loose while i'm spinning but saturday night definitely called for a little extra imbibing since it was a little more difficult to get the crowd moving. i do like me some veuve.

pete came up and did his thing. we are bad photographers but the yellow tshirt is genius (honorable mention for the cardigan).

towards the end of the night, a nice drunk man handed us the following request:

anyone who knows me knows about my affinity for all things r. kelly. this happens to include late-era isley brothers albums (starting with "eternal") and the "mr. biggs" alter ego that r. kelly created for ronald isley. you see, mr. biggs is a gangster, but old school. r. kelly is in love with mr. biggs' woman which starts with the song "down low" and has the story building over several isley brothers and r. kelly records finally resulting in "showdown" on r. kelly's seminal "chocolate factory" album.

NME reports that Noel Gallagher is selling his Ibiza holiday home – because he can’t stand to live near James Blunt, who owns a nearby pad, anymore.

According to The Sun’s Bizarre column, Gallagher has put the £5.5million villa on the market, saying that he can’t stand living there in the knowledge that Blunt is nearby making terrible music.

While this alone makes him easily in the top 5 on the World's Biggest Asshole list, I figured if we put a magnetic dog ribbon on him he would be guaranteed #1 status.

some douchebag that works for a radio station found a pretzel shaped like the virgin mary in a bag of rold gold pretzels. what would jesus do? sell it on ebay of course!

what blows my mind is not that the person is selling it cause let's face it, we'd all cash in on this thing if we could. but the listing has been active less than a day and there are already 55 bids with a price of over $6000! does the auction winner also win a punch in the face with their high bid?

roots jam session photos

the annual roots jam session is easily my favorite grammy season event of the year because you never really know what you might see if you stick around. this year was no different with the show being kicked off with a nearly 10 minute ?uestlove / travis barker drum-off that started on two drum kits but quickly moved to bongos and all other manner of percussion.

patrick co-hosted this year and did a great rendition of the police classic "walking on the moon"

out of nowhere, seal (the singer, not the animal) decided he wanted a piece of the action and performed "rebel, rebel", "wind cries mary", and "fly like an eagle". this is easily my favorite patrick stump related photo of all time.

as the night wore on i got progressively more intoxicated and less concerned with taking photos but the highlight of roots jam session (2nd half) is a tie between standing 10 feet away from prince and mc lyte bringing up doug e. fresh to perform "la di da di". sick.

very big props to tina and sarah from the roots camp for putting on such an amazing event 5 years running!

finally got a chance to check out the murakami exhibit at the museum of contemporary art in LA. lots of really mind blowing work on display, i would recommend it to everyone but the exhibit closes on monday. i couldn't resist the temptation of buying some of his work so i decided to drop some coin on the following two amazing lithos. limited to 300 and hand signed...

so i made a quick trip home to chicago this weekend and i'm stuck behind this asshole somewhere on addison.

do you really need 6 fucking ribbons on your soccer mom van to show your patriotism to the world? oh wait, that blue one says "I LOVE MY PITBULL". is your pitbull suffering from breast cancer while fighting in iraq? i didn't think so. you win the asshole of the year award! god bless the usa for giving us this ignorant moron, i'm sure all the troops and breast cancer survivors will be PSYCHED that you think your pitbull is just as important as they are.

motley cruise part two

it's a cruise to mexico but let's not forget where we're sailing from!

now might be a good time to mention that there was no costume contest on the cruise.

there was a sweet, all filipino cover band on the boat that eric and i decided to check out. what you have to understand is that they were doing perfect, note for note covers of everything from the bee gees to guns n' roses. guy with the red ibanez was shredding guitar solos! of course when they asked if there was a drummer in the house i had to make sure eric got up there.

the night eventually turned into a cover band free for all with michael from endeverafter getting up to play guitar with vince neil singing "livewire". definitely a highlight of the cruise...

we decided to walk around cozumel for a bit and came across this amazing van with a plastic shopping bag for a gas cap. maybe it's one of those things that's just funnier in person.

we also got this sweet mexican cop to take some photos with the endeverafter guys. paging erik estrada...

this is kinda like the hessier version of when you go to six flags and the boyfriend and girlfriend are wearing matching outfits.

all in all the cruise was a great experience. met a lot of interesting people and had an amazing time with the endeverafter guys. thanks to alan koenig for taking care of us all weekend!

motley cruise day one (cont.)

i wrote this part of the blog last night but haven't been able to upload it til now...

tonight was endeverafter's first show on the boat. we loaded in gear for soundcheck, set up stage, etc. with the help of mario aka mikey aka princess pussybutt who is the roadie/butt of all jokes for the endeverafter camp:

we had a few hours to kill after that which was mostly spent dodging drunk hessiers that were on hour 11 of a marathon drinking binge. a lot of them resembled this guy:

the endeverafter show was great, although a few minutes late since the slaughter show was running behind due to "a few of the slaughter guys gone missing" whatever that means. they tore through all of their hits

and these guys were loving it

day two has been mostly chill as i opted out of the key west shore trip to sleep in and then sit on the pool deck for a few lazy cocktails...

motley cruise day one

first impressions from the motley cruise:

arrived in miami last night, crashed in hotel. woke up and drove to the port of miami with the endeverafter guys. no sooner than 5 minutes after pulling up to the curb, we encounter this sweet dude unloading his luggage:

easy on the sunglasses there captain! i know it's miami but we're not taking a cruise to the sun.

stood in line to check into the cruise and can't help but notice this hot little number:

we decided to cruise the decks a bit to check out the scenery and what have we here? cowboy hats made out of beer cartons? i know you crushed that 30 pack earlier brah but you didn't need to wear the packaging as evidence...

more to come soon. carnival charges $24 an hour for internet access so not as much "live" blogging as i'd hoped but the hits are sure to keep coming!
